On Saturday the Wild /Cap girls played host to the D.C.Diamonds U-14's in Middleton hoping to avenge an early season loss. The diamonds had a large edge in team size but our girls were up to the challenge and fought through the diamonds physical play. The first period ended in a scoreless tie. In the second Francesca Suino would get the assist on a Peyton Weinreich goal 5 minutes in, then just 90 seconds later Jennifer Peck lit the lamp on a feed from Nina Andersen. Protecting their 2-0 advantage would be difficult as the Diamonds pressed the pace and soon the score was 2-1. But the Wild /Caps dug in and killed off two third period penalties to secure the win.
Sunday morning the Winnetka U-12's brought their speed game to the Ponds. The play was fast from the first dropped puck, and Winnetka was forced to defend most of the period. On a clean centering pass from Weinreich, Sloan Sullivan found the back of the net to score for the Wild / Caps.
The fast pace of the first period started to show as our girls seemed to loose a step. Winnetka had several quality chances turned away by Hunter Kurbel in goal, but would finally score on a rebound in heavy traffic. The two teams traded rush after rush until Winnetka scored again in the third, going up 2-1. The Wild/Caps would put 29 shots onto the Winnetka goaltender but couldn't get the tie.
